Wanted items & information

Wanted Information: – Early-ish Beijing (?) punk … long ago I used trade discs with the editor of the (genuinely) legendary Chinese ‘So Rock! Magazine’ (Shijiazhuang, Hebei) and he sent me a CD that came with an early issue that had this track on it. Excuse the clip graphic which I added in myself … I can’t put my finger on who this band is … it’s kind of UK 77- 82 style punk/oi to my ears. I like it a lot … but I need someone out there to identify it as I’ve misplaced the original disc with the info on it: Who is this? Thanks.

I think it might be the Anarchy Boys (from Beijing) [Track 2 below] ? ? ? ? Possibly even 泼耳吐司 [Track 3]. It was a CD that came with one of the very early issues. (So Rock! sampler below also includes a Mika Bomb track!! [Track 4])

Warning: First track above (江震 与 瑞路乐队) : please ignore/dismiss any controversial lyrics within this track.

Wanted rare 10 inch Australian 78 disc 1951: HUE LEE Rose, Rose, I Love You / An Autumn Melody (Australia/New Zealand) Columbia DO-3403 (Anyone with a copy of this to sell – let me know. But it MUST be the Australia or NZ pressing. This is Shanghai/HK singer Yao Lee [姚莉] who was General Manager and a producer at EMI HK in the 70s and tried to sign Teresa Teng to EMI. Amazing this was released in Australia, and it speaks to the existing market for Chinese language music in Australia at that time. It’s rare, and not an easy one to find.)

Update: FOUND : I was at an after-work thing at a pub last night and Elise (who I work with) was sitting next to me and mentioned she’s been picking up some interesting 78s recently. I showed her a picture of this on my phone and said I have been looking for it for around 8 years. She says ‘I have this one’. It was like something out of the ‘Twilight Zone’. She brought it in the next monring. It’s in great condition too.

THE PARADISE BANGKOK MOLAM INTERNATIONAL BAND 21st Century Molam 12 INCH VINYL LP (Thailand) Studio Lam SLLP001

(2014 – as much as I want a copy of this album, I don’t want to pay excessive prices + shipping such as what it often gets listed for online. If anyone is listing a copy within Australia [it turns up here periodically] + reasonable post to Canberra, please let me know [vinyl version only/not the CD]. When I eventually get one – I’ll add it to the main list. This band played in Seoul and there’s some cool footage out there of it. Track below is my favourite off the album – Lam San Disco – it builds and takes shape in the second half … amazing sound).

Wanted link to footage/interview: Faye Wong’s Concerts at the Sydney Entertainment Centre June 30, 2000 and/or Melbourne Entertainment Centre June 28, 2000. Apparently there was professional video of the events (capture below), in additional to the handheld footage on-line of one song. Also, somewhere out there there may be the recordings of the two English language interviews she did promoting the concerts. Any info via comments below or message would be appreciated. First major Chinese pop star to tour Australia (that I know of).

On the topic of Faye Wong in Australia. I have an ok quality digital copy of it, but somewhere out there there may or may not be a better quality format of the short tourism promotional film ‘The Perth Tour Music Special 1993‘ [first flagged and captured by].

This is a short film starring Faye Wong (王菲) and Tony Leung Chiu-Wai (梁朝偉) set in Perth in 1993 … a year before they starred together in Chungking Express. It’s basically a fun romantic drama set around various tourist destinations in and around Perth. It has songs from the iconic album 100,000 Whys? and has a sequence where Faye Wong (driving a car) says “hop in, mate” to a hitch-hiking Tony Leung in English in an Australian accent. It’s in both Cantonese and English. I was in HK in 93 and it’s hard to convey just how big Faye Wong was there as that album (100,000 Whys?) was taking off.

Additionally, the film also includes famed actor Lawrence Cheng. Tony Leung of course later co-stared with Maggie Cheung in In the Mood for Love (NYT #4 film of 21st Century). The very first song on the film is called 柏斯𠓗思我爱你 which is believed to mean “Perth I love you”.

The credits thank; Cathay Pacific airlines, the South Australia Tourism Commission and Tourism Australia (the latter two directly translated as South Australia Tourism Bureau and Australia Tourism Bureau).

Anyone who has any further info (or a analogue copy of film) please let me know.

I’m also looking for inexpensive copies with regular airmail shipping of the following vinyl discs: RISE OF KWON Cobra Kai: Volume II THREE COLOURED VINYL LP BOX SET (US) Mutant MBM-060 [with [Luna Lee] on Gayageum on disc 2] (2025) : [AKDONG MUSICIAN] : Anthology 10 Inch vinyl LP Jejagso Hwasubun JHY-0001 (2024) : [DYNAMIC DUO] Enlightened DOUBLE VINYL LP Amoeba Culture (2023 release of 2007 album)

(2020 & 2023 – Looking for either of the albums, especially Hoang, on VINYL only. Any variation is fine. Kind of essential to have an album with ‘Duyên Âm’ on the site. I recognise these sold out fast after release. If you’re listing a copy anywhere please send me a heads up.)

Please contact via below if can help on any of above, or to suggest something worth checking out : )
